Add an SMB connection

Page layout

  1. Top bar: New network or Edit network, with a back button on the left.
  2. Protocol: choose SMB when adding; an existing connection's protocol is fixed.
  3. Basic information: Name and Connection address.
  4. Authentication: Username and Password.
  5. SMB settings: Share name and optional Domain/workgroup.
  6. Actions: save at the bottom right, or use Test connection to validate the fields.

Fields

  • Name: the name shown in the network list; required when saving.
  • Connection address: the SMB host; required. Invalid formats show an error. The default port is 445 if omitted.
  • Username: the user allowed to access the share.
  • Password: that user's password.
  • Share name: the shared directory name. Leave empty if it is included in the address; the parsed name is used.
  • Domain/workgroup (optional): enter it when domain or workgroup authentication is required.
  • Save to database: shown for new connections; disable it for a temporary connection only.

Address formats

The address can contain only a host or also a share name. If the share is included, the separate Share name field can be empty.

  • server.local
  • server.local/media
  • smb://server.local/media
  • \\server.local\media
