Sharing management
Share files and folders on the same local network. Generate a link for browser access, or send content directly to a chosen device. For link sharing, you can keep adding content and maintain the shared-items list.
Features
- Link sharing: start a sharing service, share its address or QR code, and manage device access, password verification, downloads, and upload authorization.
- Share to devices: send files or folders to a device, handle incoming requests, and manage authorization, receiving directories, and history.
- Shared files: add content to link sharing, view the current list, and remove one or several items.
Choose a method
- Use Link sharing when recipients need to view, download, or upload through a browser.
- Use Share to devices to send directly to a specific device running FolderSpan.
- Open Shared files to adjust content after link sharing is running.
Recommended reading order
Share through a browser
- Read Link sharing to start the service, approve access, download, and upload.
- Read Shared files to add content or remove items from the current list.
Send to a device
Read Share to devices to choose recipients, handle requests, configure authorization, and view history.
Key concepts
Link sharing
After the sender starts a service, recipients open the displayed address or QR code. The sender can approve requests individually or enable automatic approval or password access. To receive uploads, the sender must also allow uploads and handle upload-permission requests.
Device sharing
After a sender chooses a device and sends a request, the recipient can Save, View, or Reject. Sharing management provides Auto-accept, Confirm every time, and Always reject policies for each device, along with a receiving directory.
Shared-items list
The list records the files and folders currently exposed through link sharing. Removing an entry stops sharing it; it does not delete the original file or folder.
Recommendations
- Keep both devices on the same local network, with the application and sharing service running until transfers finish.
- Use automatic approval, automatic acceptance, and upload permissions only for trusted devices. Do not post both an access address and password publicly.
- Check the sender, content, and save path before accepting a device share.
- Stop the link-sharing service after use and remove shared entries or device records you no longer need.
